Kidney Research Northwest

Kidney Research Northwest & North West Cancer Research Funding Award

Kidney Research Northwest is delighted to be working in partnership with North West Cancer Research to offer a unique research funding round.

Kidney cancer is one of the most common cancers in the UK – and one which is increasingly common. Nationally kidney cancer rates have increased by over 1/3rd in the last decade and mortality from this condition is also rising.

We invite applications from researchers for projects which seek to uncover knowledge into kidney cancer. The round is open to individuals working in a broad range of disciplines and studying the cause, care of and work towards the cure for this condition. Applications around the causes of kidney cancer in the north west, along with cancer inequalities would also be welcomed.

This Kidney Research North West / North West Cancer Research joint research funding round provides for a single project which should cost up to £150,000 in total and take up to two years. Researchers should be mindful of the current resources available to both charities. All applications will be equally considered, regardless of whether funding is requested at the higher or lower end of the funding budget.

In making their applications, researchers should consider the relevance of their application to the people of the North West of England and North Wales. This could mean overall incidence or that kidney cancer is more commonly associated with poor outcomes within the region.

Applications may consider:

Improvements to existing cancer diagnosis, treatments and understanding of the cause including the early diagnosis of cancer
along with the development of bio-markers.

Focus on the improvement of cancer outcomes through better treatment

Improving the patient experience of diagnosis and treatment

Living with and beyond cancer

Cancers which affect young people

Cancer metastases

Applications for this funding round are open to researchers based across the UK and applicants may be from academic, healthcare, social care or other sectors. We encourage collaborations between institutions and NHS organisations and encourage collaborative applications within our regional footprint. As noted above, all applicants should ensure that their work is directly relevant to the people of the North West of England and North Wales.

This funding round will close 5th July 2021 at 5pm.
